Saved Segments

You can create custom segments to filter your audience when sending notifications.
A segment can be defined on the spot when sending a notification or saved for repeated use.
This guide explains how to create and manage saved segments from the dashboard—ideal when working with complex audience filters you’ll reuse multiple times.

Creating a Saved Segment

  1. Go to your project dashboard.
  2. Click Segments → New Segment.
  3. Enter your filters:
    • Filter by Tags: Add tags or boolean tag expressions.
    • Filter by Users: Provide a list of user IDs.
  4. You can combine multiple conditions (e.g., tags and users).
Only subscriptions matching all conditions will be included.

For more details on filtering options, see the Targeting section.

Viewing & Editing Segments

Once created, you can:

  • See the estimated number of browsers in the segment by going to Segments and clicking Show.
  • Click the browser count to view the full list of matching subscriptions.
  • Refine or update the segment by clicking Edit.

How Saved Segments Work

Saved segments are lazily evaluated—meaning the criteria are applied when you send the notification, not at the time of creation.

Example:
You create a segment filtered by tag1. Later, you add tag1 to a new subscription.
When you send a notification to that saved segment, the newly tagged subscription will be included automatically.
